My Story: the Woo Woo & the Weird

Growing up my mom and her friend, Pat, practiced Reiki, meditation, and yoga. I would occasionally let them do Reiki on me for different sports injuries but I thought they were SO WEIRD and didn’t totally buy in!

In high school and college, I would get migraines and when they came on, I needed to hide in a very dark and quiet room and sleep. Most of the time when I woke up the big pain would be gone but I’d be left with a migraine hangover – feeling foggy, tired, just not myself.

One of the times I could feel the migraine coming on, I was at home and asked my mom and Pat if they could try some Reiki. As soon as they put their hands on me, I started laughing uncontrollably! I laughed myself right to sleep and when I woke up I was so amazed… no hangover! That was the first time I really saw what Reiki could do.

During my undergraduate time at UVM, I took an elective class called Healing Touch. Healing Touch is a form of energy work that was brought to life by a nurse in the States. I enjoyed that it followed more of a medical model – evaluation, treatment, re-evaluation. I found the various treatment techniques to be helpful and fun to use. I found Healing Touch Level 1 so helpful that I went on to complete Level 2 as well.

Outside of school, I dove into the practice of Reiki, completing my level 1 training in 2011 and then after school completing my level 2 training in 2015.  I have found Reiki to be a more intuitive practice that is guided by various hand placements and symbols.

I have always enjoyed mixing the structure of western medicine with the intuitive nature of easter medicine. I continue to do this as I mix the evaluation and treatment techniques of Healing Touch with the intuitive nature of Reiki.

I have been witnessed to and experienced the power of energetic work to address physical, mental, and emotional troubles. I continue to be amazed by what can happen when we remove blocks, allowing the energy to flow and the body to do what it does best – heal.

So now, years later, I do all of the weird and woo woo stuff too! And … I LOVE it!
